The dancer, singer and choreographer Sonia Marc (aka La Sosso), offers a mesh of “Afro-contemporary”, “Hip-Hop”, “Bèlè” and “Danmyé” dances, in a ballet-theater inspired by the sea. Durant 6 months, this production was co-constructed with the collaboration of Josiane Antourel, also designer of body shows. “It’s a mixture of the arts” indicates Sonia, who meets the public on Saturday January 18, 2025, at 7:30 p.m.
It’s like a dream come true for Sonia Marc, because for 10 years, the dancer, singer and choreographer wanted to start conceptualizing a ballet theater.
After 6 months of “intense preparation”, this show inspired by the sea, is on the Atrium stage, with the collaboration of Josiane Antourel, also a choreography creator.
Josiane Antourel and I have worked together for over twenty years. In the meantime, we had developed other choreographic compositions for the Trass’la company such as “Tintin’glorya”, “La Balayeuse de Rues”, “Malgré Ça Nou La”, and “Jodi Kon Sa Demen Diferaman”(…). Today, here we are: “Lanmè Kapran Lanmè Kabay” (the sea takes, the sea gives), is a work where dance, music, image, memorial places, heritage, misfortunes and the great joys, all merged in the sea waves.
The sea connects us to our Native American Ancestors, punctuates our complex relationship with Europe: Uprooting/Swallowing, and links us to our ancestral land, Africa. It also introduces us to the mysteries of the depths of the world. The sea, formidable and charitable at the same time, is also the scene of intangible collective experiences, Miraculous Fishing, Festivals, Gommier Regattas and Yoles Tours, all strong moments in our intimate bond with it.
It’s the story of a sailor, after a miraculous catch of “coulirous” and “balaous”, goes back to sea and does not return, he is believed to have disappeared. The sea is rough, we look for him, we talk about “Manman Dlo”. Fire ceremony, sadness, desolation, joy. We finally find him in a romance then as a courier in one of the skiffs. “We find all the atmosphere of the skiff races in Martinique, Danmye-Rap, Bèlè, Kous Kanno, Komba Baton, Joupa, Pawol de Coursiers… “.
Sosso adds that “light plays a very important role” in this creation; “she is herself another character”.

“The sea can take The sea can give” (the sea takes, the sea gives), Saturday January 18, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. at the Tropiques Atrium cultural center in Fort-de-France.
I need the Sea; she is my lesson. I don’t know if she’s teaching me music or consciousness. I don’t know if it’s vague or deep, or just hoarse or conjecture.
Pablo Neruda – extract from “The Sea”(author from Chile in South America)
