Instagram is putting an end to the square format of content displayed in the profile grid and opting for rectangles more in line with modern uses depending on the platform.
This is an almost historic change for Instagram. From now on, when you go to someone’s profile, you might notice a difference. The grid displays content in rectangles (in the vertical direction) and no longer in squares.
Instagram explains these changes
The square format was however one of the application’s trademarks. Instagram boss Adam Mosseri is well aware of this. However, he claims an inevitable choice in the face of changing uses.
The new Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro+ is here
Xiaomi’s future bestseller has just arrived. This new reference combining impressive features and attractive prices is already on sale at Boulanger.
« I know some of you really like your squares. And square photos are sort of Instagram’s legacy. But at present, most uploaded photos and videos are oriented vertically», he explains in a story. “It’s a shame to have to crop them excessively ».
Adam Mosseri specifies that this deployment takes place during the weekend. So, on the evening of January 19, everyone should have the new grid.
-The leader does not hide the fact that this causes him a little pain. However, he shows his conviction that the general public will appreciate this change after a while.
I think in the long run, people will be happy to see that more of their photos and videos are visible as is in the profile, instead of being aggressively cropped.

Remember that this change is not really a surprise. A test of this novelty had already been announced in August 2024.
