World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, defending champion, qualified for the round of 16 of the Australian Open on Saturday. This thanks to his victory in three sets against the American Marcos Giron (46th).
The Italian, winner for the 4th time in as many duels against his opponent, won 6-3 6-4 6-2 and joined his rivals Alexander Zverev (2nd), Carlos Alcaraz (3rd) and Novak Djokovic ( 7th) among the last sixteen players competing.
Sinner, now on a series of 17 consecutive victories, will face in the round of 16 the Dane Holger Rune (13th) or the Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic (51st), who are playing their 3rd round in the evening.
-Double winner in Grand Slams (Australian Open and US Open 2024), the 23-year-old champion has not been beaten for more than three months and his defeat in the final of the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing against Alcaraz at the beginning of October.
