Gaël Monfils and Elina Svitolina, two of tennis’ most accomplished players and one of the sport’s most prominent married couples, knocked out both world number 4s on the same day, at the same tournament, or even on the same court.
They both came back from a set to do it too.
Monfils was first, beating ATP No. 4 Taylor Fritz in the afternoon session at Margaret Court Arena, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (1), 6- 4.
This is the biggest victory of his career at a Grand Slam tournament.
-Hours later, Svitolina emulated her husband’s feat, beating WTA No. 4 Jasmine Paolini in the evening session at Margaret Court Arena, 2-6, 6-4, 6-0.
It was the 40th notable Top 10 victory of his career.
