Corsica placed on orange rain-flood alert this Saturday

Météo services have placed the whole of Corsica on orange alert for the “rain-flood” parameter. The alert will begin this Saturday, January 18 at 8 p.m. for Southern Corsica and 10 p.m. for Haute-Corse and should end on Sunday, January 19 at 3 p.m.

“The Gabri depression, Saturday and Sunday, will position itself to the south of Corsica. To the east of 2A, late Saturday afternoon, precipitation begins to increase and is sometimes stormy on the coast. In the night from Saturday to Sunday, these sometimes stormy rains extend to the east of 2B and strengthen. They continue continuously, quite heavily over the east of the entire island during the day on Sunday. On the eastern slopes and the summits of Incudine, Fiumorbo and Renoso, over the entire episode until Sunday evening, the expected accumulations reach 150 to 220 mm. The quantities of snow expected above 1500m are significant. On the eastern coast and coastal plains, the expected accumulations are 40 to 60 mm to 80 mm. Sunday daytimeindicates Météo France.

Vigilance is also required in the mountains, currently on yellow alert for the “avalanche” parameter.
