Gaël Monfils knocks down world No. 4 Taylor Fritz in the 3rd round

Frenchman Gaël Monfils, 41st player in the world, beat American Taylor Fritz (4th) on Saturday in the third round of the Australian Open, signing his first Grand Slam victory against a member of the top 5 since 2008.

Having become the oldest tournament winner on the main circuit since 1977 in early January in Auckland, the 38-year-old Parisian won the match 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7/1), 6-4 and will face the Italian Lorenzo Musetti (15th) or the American Ben Shelton (20th) in the round of 16.
