According to the document published on the Kremlin website, the two countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, defense, security, space, energy and the fight against terrorism, between other areas.

The agreement also states that both countries will reject third-party sanctions imposed against either and will prevent the use of unilateral coercive measures.

According to the Kremlin, which cited Mr. Putin’s remarks at a press conference after discussions with the Iranian head of state, “this truly innovative document aims to establish conditions for the stable and sustainable development of Russia and Iran, as well as our entire common Eurasian region.”

The Russian president also noted that the new treaty outlines ambitious goals and creates a framework for deepening long-term cooperation in areas such as politics, security, trade, investment and humanitarian affairs.

He further stressed that Russia and Iran have been able to maintain extensive and mutually beneficial relations, affirming that the agreements will strengthen Russian-Iranian relations in all areas.

For his part, Pezeshkian said the new agreement will mark the beginning of a new chapter in relations between Russia and Iran and boost bilateral economic and trade ties.

“This meeting…and the agreements reached between our countries constitute a new impetus to build a multipolar world. And, of course, this mainly concerns the development of Iran and Russia,” he indicated.

During their talks, the two leaders also discussed various foreign policy issues and Russian and Iranian positions largely aligned.
