The Victoire de Montréal took its revenge on the Frost and stole first place in the Professional Women’s Hockey League (LPHF) standings.

Friday evening, at Place Bell, the Belle Province club recorded a 4-2 victory over its rivals from Minnesota. The reigning champions won by the same score last Sunday and thus overtook the Montrealers at the top.

This match was also marked by the injury of Laura Stacey. The attacker was not in the rematch. Abigail Boreen took her place on the first trio alongside Marie-Philip Poulin and Jennifer Gardiner.

Head coach Kori Cheverie obviously made a good choice, as Boreen scored the first goal of the day’s clash. She moved the strings by completing a play from Gardiner in the first period. The 24-year-old American also hit the target during the final third.

Claire Dalton and Poulin scored the other two Victory successes. They moved the ropes during the second period. The captain took advantage of a numerical advantage to score her fifth goal of the season. Erin Ambrose completed her match with three assists.

The Frost’s response came from the sticks of Kendall Coyne Schofield and Claire Thompson, respectively in the final moments of the second and third periods.

Goalkeeper Ann-Renée Desbiens made 20 saves for the local favorites. At the other end of the ice, Nicole Hensley turned away 18 of the 22 pucks sent in her direction.

The Victoire will now travel to Quebec, where it will face the Ottawa Charge on Sunday at the Videotron Center. This will be the fourth of nine matches presented on neutral territory as part of the LPHF Grand Tour.
