Handball: water infiltration at the sports center forces US -Vernouillet to go into exile

Trash cans placed in the four corners of the room to collect trickles of water falling from the sky. This is now the case – system D – on rainy days at the sports center.

While the roof of the building has been under repair for several months, and the work could still take several weeks depending on the weather, the use of the room is inevitably disrupted. A training session at US Dreux-Vernouillet even had to be canceled last week.

A second match?

To avoid being exposed to these possible water infiltrations on a match day, the USDV took the lead. It is at the Halle Jean-Cochet in that Louis Prévost’s partners will welcome , on Sunday January 26, in a late match of the 14th day. “We had the possibility of moving to another room, but without a stand. So we approached the city of Chartres, which kindly accepted our request,” confides the sports assistant for the City of Dreux, Alain Guenzi.

“It’s a flash, it’s not too bad. If there’s work to be done, we’ll do it.”

Depending on the progress of the work, it is not impossible that the exile will be repeated for the reception in , in mid-February. A request has been submitted to this effect, even if Alain Guenzi does not rule out the possibility that the sports center will be ready by then.

To do this, his teams will have to focus on the floor. It warped in certain places, and was damaged by a falling sheet of metal on December 21. An incident which led to the postponement of the match against Mulhouse. “It’s a splinter, it’s not very bad. If there is work to be done, we will do it,” specifies the elected official.

At the start of the season, the club had anticipated possible disruptions and had asked the federation to play as many home matches as possible in the second half of the season. Over the last 12 days, USDV still has to play eight at home.

Soon a unique marking. To meet the requirements of the specifications of the National Handball League, with a view to a possible promotion to Proligue, the floor of the Dreux sports center will be adapted this summer, with a unique marking. Several options exist: sanding the existing parquet floor, adding a taraflex on top or even purchasing a light tracing system using a video projector. No choice has yet been made.
