“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our father Denis Law. He fought a difficult battle, but he is now at peace,” his family announced. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia in 2021.
Law scored 237 goals in 404 appearances during an 11-year spell at Old Trafford between 1962 and 1973, placing him third behind Wayne Rooney and Bobby Charlton on the list of United’s all-time top scorers .
Nicknamed “The King”, Law defied his diminutive physique (1m75) to terrorize defenders with his fearless approach and electric speed during an 18-year career that saw him move to his first club, Huddersfield, Manchester City (twice) and Torino. But it was with Manchester United that he had his moment of glory.
-He was the third member of the “United Trinity” statue in front of Old Trafford stadium with two other Ballon d’Or winners George Best (1968) and Bobby Charlton (1966).
He will play his 55th and last international match with Scotland (30 goals) during the 1974 World Cup in Germany.
