Erling Haaland has made headlines with his new contract at Manchester City, which propels him among the highest-paid footballers in the world.

At just 24 years old, the Norwegian striker has secured an impressive nine-and-a-half year contract at the Etihad Stadium, marking one of the most lucrative pay deals in sporting history.

Since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, Haaland has established himself as one of the most lethal strikers in the world, scoring 111 goals in 126 appearances in all competitions. His remarkable performances earned him back-to-back Premier League golden boots and two league titles.

Haaland has ended speculation surrounding his future, including persistent rumors linking him to Real Madrid, confirming he plans to spend his best years at City.

According to a source, the former Red Bull Salzburg forward is now the most expensive player in the Premier League, with a bumper salary of £500,000 per week – an increase of £100,000 on his previous earnings.

This equates to an annual salary of £26m, reaching a colossal total of £247m if he stays at City until 2034.

To give a more precise idea, Haaland will earn over £2.16 million every month, which works out to around £71,200 per day. Additionally, he will earn around £3,000 every hour and almost £50 per minute.

Despite this impressive compensation, Haaland’s contract ranks only 22nd among the most lucrative sports contracts, behind other stars like MLB’s Juan Soto, the NFL’s Patrick Mahomes and Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen.

To put Haaland’s income into perspective, his salary pales in comparison to that of Cristiano Ronaldo, who currently plays for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia. Ronaldo, who joined the Middle East club in January 2023 on a two-and-a-half-year contract, is said to earn £167.9million a year – or around £3.2million a week, totaling £420million for his stay in the Gulf.

This influx of money into Saudi Arabia has prompted several elite players to leave Europe to pursue new challenges in a booming league.

Neymar currently ranks as the second highest-paid footballer, earning £2.65 million per week at Al Hilal following his move from Saint-Germain. However, his time there was marred by injuries, limiting him to just seven appearances in all competitions, leading to his exclusion from Al Hilal’s squad for the second half of the season.

Additionally, Karim Benzema, currently with Al Ittihad, reportedly earns £1.6 million per week. Meanwhile, Lionel Messi is making headlines with Inter Miami in MLS, where he is reportedly paid £865,000 per week.

While Messi could earn £112.5 million during his two-and-a-half-year contract, Haaland’s overall deal surpasses that amount in total value, placing him among the top salaries in world football.

Despite being ranked 22nd in sports contracts, Haaland remains at the top of the salary table in the world of football. Baseball star Soto holds the title for the highest sporting contract, having signed a stunning £627 million deal with the New York Mets, demonstrating the variety of earnings across different sports.

With this focus on his substantial contract, Haaland will aim to focus on his performance as Manchester City prepare for their next match against Ipswich on Sunday.
