The Belgian Football Federation has ended its collaboration with Domenico Tedesco. Our now ex-coach reacted officially.
The sports committee has conducted a thorough evaluation of national coach Domenico Tedesco. Today the decision was made to fire the German coach. The Board of Directors gave its approval.
Tedesco had been with the Red Devils since February 2023. “With a rejuvenated team, he led a strong qualifying campaign for the Euro. However, during this Euro, the Red Devils did not perform as hoped, just like during the Nations League campaign that followed,” the federation wrote.
The entire technical staff, made up of Andreas Hinkel, Max Urwantschky, Vladimir Cepzanovic, Umberto Tedesco and Luke Benstead, also leaves.
-Tedesco disappointed but proud
“Domenico got off to an excellent start and proved that after the starting generation, great things are still possible,” says Peter Willems, CEO of the Belgian Union. “He has integrated several young players into the team, on which his successor can continue to build. We thank him and his team for the pleasant collaboration, hard work and commitment, and wish them all the best for the future.”
Domenico Tedesco also reacted: “I have always been a proud coach of the Red Devils, we have accomplished excellent things together. Unfortunately, a great story is now coming to an end.”
“I am completely convinced that the team will win against Ukraine and qualify for the World Cup without any problems. This team is still in its infancy and will achieve great success in the years to come. I wish the players, to the wonderful employees of the federation and to the supporters all the best from the bottom of my heart” he concludes. After the long wait for the announcement of Tedesco’s departure, it remains to be seen how long the federation will take to announce his successor.
