This Thursday, January 17, 2025, around 5:30 p.m., a chimney fire caused the fire which broke out in a house in the center of the town of Villemur-sur-Tarn.

We had 10 minutes to evacuate the accommodation because of the risk of spread. 10 minutes to take the minimum of a life (a few clothes, papers, pets…).

The fire quickly spread to three terraced houses which were totally or partially destroyed. It took more than three hours to bring the fire under control, with the help of firefighters from the Villemur-sur-Tarn, Fronton and Saint-Jory barracks. Substantial means of intervention, including large scale, have been deployed.

This morning, still in shock, life afterward is trying to organize itself. A team of fire experts is currently on site to carry out structural studies to assess the future of these residential buildings. A traffic restriction order has been issued by the town hall.

The municipality will open the city campsite so that the families concerned can be accommodated there in mobile homes, depending on their insurance.
