No, Micromania has not revealed the price of the Nintendo Switch 2

Some rumors spread like wildfire on the web, but you must always be vigilant regarding their sources.

This is the case with a very tempting rumor surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2. 5 days ago, an extract from a message published on Discord began to make the rounds on the Internet. It claims to reveal valuable information on the launch of the console in France, thanks to sources from Micromania, the famous specialist brand.

The rumor

We find the origin of this rumor in the screenshot of this Discord message published on the Switch 2 subreddit.

The author of this message, DoNotDisturb, claims to be able to announce the prices of the console and games because he works for Micromania. It puts forward a price of 399 euros, games from 69 to 79 euros and 25 games at launch. The price of Nintendo Switch Online would also be increasing.

A rumor which was picked up by numerous media including JVCom in France through their X account (formerly Twitter), re-shared more than 1000 times and liked more than 5000 times.

Why the source is not credible

Without having the information of the price or the launch of the Switch 2 ourselves, it is difficult to be able to completely deny this rumor, and yet we can affirm that it is not based on anything.

And for good reason, traders have simply not been made aware of Nintendo’s plans at this stage. The giant has just released its first trailer and will speak again in April, in a little over three months. Furthermore, we estimate the release of the console in May or June, at best, or in at least five months.

Nintendo would have no interest in putting merchants in the loop, five months before the release of its console, unless it wanted leaks to the press. Here, we are talking about a French trader, imagine the number of people around the world aware of it if every brand in every country would already be aware.

We asked the question to Clément Grandjean, head of the recommendation, affiliation and services division for Frandroid, who is therefore in contact with distributors.

He confirms to us that as for the press within the framework of embargoes, “ brands brief merchants just before or 24 hours after an announcement », especially in the case of giants like Apple or Nintendo. Suffice it to say that before April “there will be nothing”.

We were also able to ask the question to a large French brand, which confirmed to us that it had no information at this stage.

So the price of the Switch 2?

Does this mean that the Nintendo Switch 2 will not be sold for 399 euros? Impossible to say today. Here, the source of this rumor points to a probable price, it is also one of the prices that we have estimated for the Switch 2 and on which many analysts agree.

Likewise, we can, in fact, expect an increase in the price of Nintendo Switch Online or the price of games. But this is simply common sense given the habits of manufacturers during generational changes, and inflation.
