Walmart Canada says a third-party supplier that weighed and labeled meat products for its Richmond, B.C., store immediately took “corrective action” when it was informed that some products were incorrectly priced.

The Walmart, Sobeys and Loblaw chains were the subject of a class action last week, alleging that they had inaccurately presented the weight of the meat by including the weight of the packaging in the prices.

Walmart Canada said in an emailed statement that a third-party vendor was responsible for a isolated incident occurred at the Richmond store during a two-week period last month.

The retailer says its suppliers set the price of meat in accordance with Canadian Food Inspection Agency regulations and that the latter “has not communicated to Walmart a concern regarding a discrepancy between the price and the weight of meat.

The complaint filed this month in Vancouver says high food prices have been the subject countless reports and that the legal action was filed shortly after CBC News revealed the alleged practices in an investigation last week.

A representative for Sobeys declined to speak about the lawsuit, and Loblaw did not respond to a request for comment.
