American director and screenwriter David Lynch he died at the age of 78. The family announced the news in a message posted on Facebook, without providing details on the causes of death. “Now that he is no longer with us, we have a big hole in our hearts,” the post read.

Among the most acclaimed and influential directors of his era, Lynch was the primary creative mind behind the “Twin Peaks” series, which immediately became a global cultural phenomenon and received three nominations. Oscar Award for directing the films “The Elephant Man”, “Blue Velvet” and “Mulholland Drive”. In an interview last year, the director announced that he suffered from a form of emphysema, adding that the lung disease caused by smoking had considerably limited his mobility.
