Real Madrid wins its round of 16 of the Copa del Rey 5-2 against Celta de Vigo.
Real Madrid qualified for the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey by eliminating Celta de Vigo, after extra time, with goals from Kylian Mbappé, Vinicius Jr., Endrick twice and Valverde.
Real Madrid starters
Andriy Lunin (5/10) : Slightly helped by the refereeing, Lunin leaves the Bernabéu with a decent performance, despite conceding two goals.
Lucas Vázquez (4/10) : Fortunately Asencio covered de Vázquez’s moments of hesitation. But hey, we’ve had worse, as they say.
Raúl Asencio (7/10) : Asensio finds a starting place, and what a performance! The new darling of the Bernabéu delivered an impressive match, displaying a complete range: precise restarts, mastery of duels, assertive character, natural leadership and remarkable calm… Until added time when the young Spaniard conceded a penalty. The ink stain on an almost perfect copy.
Antonio Rüdiger (6/10) : The German was serious this evening. More focused, less chatter.
Fran Garcia (4/10) : Valiant, Fran Garcia shows encouraging signs, but too often remains dissipated in his game, like a hyperactive and talkative student in the classroom.
Aurélien Tchouaméni (6/10) : Whistled by the Bernabéu when the players were announced, the Frenchman had a mixed evening. He had, however, found his favorite position, but he was disturbed by the hostile atmosphere towards him at the start of the match, which affected his start. However, he recovered well afterwards to deliver a rather solid performance.
Luka Modric (7/10) : Everything seems simpler when Modric plays at this level. A good match from the Croatian.
Dani Ceballos (6/10) : Dani did Ceballos, with an extra intensity well appreciated by Real Madrid.
Brahim Díaz (6/10) : A missed first half for the Moroccan but he was able to free himself in the second act, notably with a decisive pass.
Vinicius Jr. (7/10) : Winter does not seem to be the Brazilian’s favorite season and yet even with a cold, Vini is decisive.
Kylian Mbappé (7/10) : Very strong, Mbappé struck hard again: incessant provocations and an absolutely incredible goal. His adaptation to Real Madrid now seems completely complete. Small downside, the failures in the second half.
Coach’s note:
Carlo Ancelotti (5/10) : The Italian coach, also whistled by the Bernabéu, made choices by blowing Valverde, Bellingham and Rodrygo. He finally started Asensio. His option to play with two creators in the middle and a three-man defense in the defensive phase was interesting. However, his Real Madrid seems to be weakening mentally and this time, it is Endrick who saves Carlo Ancelotti.
Real Madrid substitutes
Arda Güler (entered in the 70th minute in place of Brahim) 7/10 : Good return from the Turk, notably with a goal disallowed for offside and the decisive pass for Endrick.
Eduardo Camavinga (entered in the 70th minute in place of Dani Ceballos) 3/10 : He was at fault for the equalizer at the end of the Celta match.
Federico Valverde (entered in the 79th minute in place of Luka Modric) 8/10: GREAT GOAL, BOMBACE, Valverde is a legend.
Endrick (entered in the 79th minute in place of Mbappé) 8/10 : From zero to hero, Endrick is the savior of Real Madrid tonight. This little one loves big moments. Doubled and man of the match.
Jude Bellingham (entered in the 91st minute in place of Fran Garcia) : Not rated.
Rodrygo (entered in the 105th minute in place of Vinicius Jr.) : Not rated.
