Nintendo finally unveils the Switch 2! Discover it quickly

We expected it, we hoped for it, we barely believed it… but it’s official: the Switch 2 is arriving in 2025! In a video published today, January 16, 2025, Nintendo decided to break the silence by sharing the first details about its new console. It’s not too early Nintendo!

For years, Nintendo has been teasing our patience with updates like the Switch Lite or the Switch OLED, but this time, it’s the real revolution. Rumors have been circulating since December about the next console, including from accessory makers like Dbrand et Genkiwho even revealed models based on supposed dimensions.

Normal if, with this official presentation, Nintendo comes into the spotlight. So, are you ready? I’ll tell you everything!

A console that meets expectations (and a little bigger too)

Visually, the Nintendo Switch 2 remains faithful to its big sister while displaying some notable adjustments. The slightly larger console sports Joy-Con controllers in a sleek black look with pops of color.

And there has been a small change: the controllers no longer slide to the sides. They are probably fixed thanks to a magnetic system as discussed in recent recent leaks.

In the video, we see them snap into place with disconcerting simplicity. A new button also appears under the home button of the Joy-Con droitand, icing on the cake, it seems that you can use the controllers like a mouse.

Another improvement: the SL and SR buttons have been enlarged, providing a more comfortable grip. The console is also updated on the connectivity side. We now find a port USB-C and one 3.5mm headphone jack on top.

As for the kickstand, it sports a more practical and robust U-shaped design. The docking station, for its part, displays rounded lines for modernized look. And, like the original Switch, a controller grip accommodates the Joy-Con for a more traditional experience.

So far, Nintendo has only shown off one game in the first trailer: a brand new title Mario Kart. But the best news is backwards compatibility. Your physical and digital games from Nintendo Switch will work on Switch 2.

Please note, however, that some titles may not be fully compatible.

Nintendo is preparing Switch 2, its successor to dethrone a legend

The Switch 2 is so anticipated that many found it hard to believe that Nintendo has finally revealed it. However, I hope that you, dear reader, are aware that this console has a big challenge to be noted.

Which ? Well, this one does as well as its big sister. With his 146 million units soldthe first Switch became the second most popular console of all time, just behind the Nintendo DS.

This success can be explained in part by its concept hybridcombining home console and portable, but also by its incredible catalog of games. Titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey or even Mario Kart 8 Deluxe marked an entire generation.

The fact is that some gamers are quite loyal to their habits, which is understandable. If the first Switch offers everything it needs, why replace it? Fortunately for the Switch 2, it is backwards compatible, which makes it at least one argument more to attract players.

As for its precise release date, it still remains a mystery. However at least we have a clue: the code “2025”. Some rumors speak of a release between June and July. But we will surely have more information at an event Nintendo Direct dedicated to the Switch 2, planned for 2 avril 2025.

And for those who want to try it before everyone else, demos will be organized in April at New York, Los Angeles and Dallas. Tickets will be available from January 17 at 3 p.m. (Eastern Time) on the Nintendo website.

So how does it feel to know that the Switch 2 will be in your hands in a few months? And by the way, does what was revealed really live up to your expectations or are you expecting more from Nintendo?
