War in Ukraine: kyiv claims to have captured 27 Russian soldiers in the Kursk region

On Facebook, the Ukrainian army claimed to have taken 27 Russian soldiers prisoner in the Kursk region.

“In recent days, 27 enemy soldiers have been captured during the fighting” in the Russian region of Kursk, indicates the Ukrainian army in a press release published on the social network Facebookwe learn from our colleagues at FranceInfo. In a video posted online by the Ukrainian command, men in uniform can be seen gathered in what appears to be a village and identifying themselves in Russian to the camera.

Kursk constitutes a strategic border region for the Ukrainian and Russian armies. As a reminder, since a surprise offensive launched by kyiv in August 2024, Ukraine has controlled several hundred square kilometers there. Since then, the Kremlin has been desperate to regain control of the area, which kyiv is keen to keep for possible peace negotiations.

Recently, Ukraine announced that it had captured several North Korean soldiers in this region and offered to exchange them for Ukrainian soldiers held prisoner in Russia.
