So that’s the magic of the Cup!
Huge surprise in 16es of the Coupe de France this Wednesday with the elimination of Olympique Lyonnais by Bourgoin-Jallieu, a National 3 club (2-2, 4 TAB 2). The entire meeting was more than delicate for the Lyonnais, and the FCBJ did not steal its historic qualification for the next round.
While his teammates were unable to combine in the last meters of the opponent, Lucas Perri had to work by quickly coming out at the feet of Pierre Kohser (11e), then closing his angle well on a strike from the attacker (15e). Abandoned by his defense, the Brazilian was however unable to do anything about Mehdi Moujetzky’s fleeing shot which ended in the side net (1-0, 20e). After suffering for long minutes with each defensive intervention from Jimmy Nirlo and during the offensive transitions that followed, OL managed to equalize at the best moment, just before the break, with a cross from Saïd Benrahma perfectly volleyed by Nemanja Matić at the first post (1-1, 45e).
Pierre Sage denounces an attitude “ inadmissible »
While returning from the locker room, Pierre Sage castigated an attitude « inadmissible » of his players, his team was also muddled in the second act. Still dangerous on the counter, the FCBJ almost equalized, but Mathias Imbert’s attempt flirted with the Lyon post (62e), before Georges Mikautadze punished the N3 club by materializing one of his many opportunities with a powerful strike from a tight angle (1-2, 64e). Not enough to believe himself qualified, since Warmed Omari offered a gift to Moujetzky, very happy to recover the ball in the opposing area to offer himself a double (2-2, 69e). Nor the subtle lob and free kick of Rayan Cherki (72e95e+3) nor Ronan Jay’s completely botched exit allowed OL to get back in front. Forced to go through the penalty shootout, the Ligue 1 residents collapsed. The experienced Alexandre Lacazette and Corentin Tolisso came up against Jay, while Moujetzky, on cloud nine, saw his Panenka being stopped by Perri. While it was the decisive attempt, it was Sofiane Atik, a Gones supporter, who sealed his team’s victory and allowed an enjoyable invasion of the field.
Bad start to the year for OL.
Coupe de France: OL had never been eliminated by a National 3 team
