“What is needed is a rapid, unimpeded and uninterrupted entry of humanitarian aid (…) to respond to the enormous suffering caused by this war,” wrote Philippe Lazzarini, on X, welcoming an agreement intended to “bring the respite that the population of Gaza so badly needs and the release of the hostages” held in Gaza.

Qatar and the United States announced the conclusion of an agreement on Wednesday on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages.

According to Qatar Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdelrahmane Al-Thani, whose country is one of the mediators in the war between Israel and Palestinian Hamas, the agreement will come into force on Sunday. The first phase includes a ceasefire and the release of 33 Israeli hostages by Hamas, in exchange for several prisoners held in Israeli prisons.
