The 52-year-old cyclist hit by a bus this Wednesday died in hospital this Thursday, January 15. The accident occurred on a cycle path shared with buses. The victim, an SNCF agent, was on a business trip.

A drama played out this January 14 in . A cyclist, 52-year-old father and SNCF executive, lost his life after a violent collision with a Keolis Armor BreizhGo bus. The accident occurred at midday, on a cycle path shared with buses, rue de Châteaugiron, near a bakery.

According to witnesses, the impact was brutal. Thrown three meters, the cyclist hit the ground violently, while the bus window exploded under the impact. “We heard a big thud”says a baker present at the time of the accident.

Despite the rapid intervention of passers-by to administer first aid and the arrival of medical teams, the man, named Régis, died of his injuries at Pontchaillou hospital.

He was going to a construction site in Chantepie, as part of his missions. His colleagues, deeply touched, gathered this Wednesday at the scene of the accident. A psychological unit has been set up by the SNCF to support them.

The bus involved in the accident was traveling empty, en route to the Rennes bus station from the Keolis depot in Chantepie. The driver, unharmed but in a state of shock, was interviewed by the police. An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy.

Marion Toulgoat, from the pro-cycling association Rayons d’Action, points out a dangerous development: “The pedestrian crossing here is neither protected nor signalled. Speed ​​is limited to 50 km/h”while the rest of the city is 30 km/h.
This sector is currently under construction to create a well-secured express bike route, but the crossings remain a critical point. “We want to join this route, but it’s this crossing that poses a problem”she explains.
