At the start of this first day of hearings, the court heard the testimony of a psychologist from the National Institute of Forensic Psychiatry Philippe-Pinel, Marc-André Lamontagne.
The accused is representing himself alone this time, because he fired his lawyer in August 2024.
Regarding the sentence, the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions intends to request a sentence of 27 years in prison and an order for Mr. St-Amand to be declared a delinquent and to be supervised for 10 years.
On the night of January 2 to 3, 2020 at the Central bar in Parent, St-Amand violently hit Sylvie Lachapelle with around twenty blows to the head, before leaving her for dead.
The legal proceedings took more than three years before knowing the verdict in this case. Which was a relief for the victim.

“I cried. It’s almost four years of legal process. But I consider myself lucky and I have a lot of people who have supported me from the start,” she confided in an interview with Marie-Christine Bergeron to the bulletin Noovo Info 17.
Sylvie Lachapelle has no memory of the tragedy, but still has serious after-effects. She also wants a heavy sentence for Patrice St-Amand in order to prevent there being other victims.
