THE Sony A1, A1 II et A9 III are updated. On the menu, various improvements related to controls and shooting (photo and video): support for bracketing focusimprovement of the image quality with the User LUT (among others). Sony takes the opportunity to update its image authentication solution. These new firmwares are available now on the manufacturer’s website.

Shooting: bracketing focus and shutter speed up to 1/80,000 sec

Sony updates its most high-end hybrids. The Sony A1 goes into version 3.00 and inherits several functions previously reserved for the A1 II and A9 III. He thus benefits from bracketing focusvery practical for images of packshot.

It also benefits additional options for the bracketing exhibition. Likewise, the focusing magnifier (when AF is disabled) becomes available in “Light Check” mode on both the A1 and A9 III.

For its part, the A9 III goes into version 3.00and allows you to go up to 1/80 000s at all apertures, including Extended Exposure Values ​​mode.

In video, the Sony A1 II and A9 III should make it possible to obtain a better image quality when a User LUT is applied. At the same time, on the Sony A1, the function for automatically creating photos from shooting marks has been updated, indicates the manufacturer.

Some ergonomic updates

Sony is also taking the opportunity to bring some small updates to the A1 and A9 III. We can thus assign a personalized function by mode Lecture to AEL buttons (exposure lock) and DELETE.

Likewise, the capture d’images while the device is transferring photos to a smartphone (via the Creators’ App) is intended to be easier and more stable. Still on the Sony mobile app side, a notification should be displayed when an enclosure update is available. Finally, the function of planning FTP transfers to a server would have been improved.

The A1, A1 II and A9 III compatible with C2PA certification

Finally, these new firmwares allow the Sony A1, A1 II and A9 III to be compatible with the latest developments of the Sony “Authenticity Solution for Cameras”. For the record, the latter is the “concrete” translation of the certification C2PAin order to allow the image traceability captured by photographs – and avoid the proliferation of fake news.

Currently, this function is limited to certain media and news agencies. Availability for freelance photojournalists will be determined later, Sony says.
