Fifteen months after the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, Qatar indicated that a truce in Gaza was “about” to be concluded. Guest of RTL this Wednesday, January 15, Olivier Jaoui, president of the Vies Brisés – 7 Octobre association and member of the family of a hostage, hopes that the agreement will be signed.
“There have already been many very close, imminent and almost certain agreements. In December, in July, in August… We are always in hopeobviously, to release and allow the surviving hostages to return, or to recover the bodies“, he declares.
Olivier Jaoui is a cousin of Carmela and Noya Dan’s family, murdered by Hamas during the massacre of October 7, and of Hadas Kalderon, whose children, Sahar and Erez, were released on November 27. Their father Ofer is still detained.
For this family, the trauma is still raw. “Erez, for example, is still very afraid. He is afraid of closed doors, fearing that behind them, there is a terrorist. So no, they are not doing well at all,” he told RTL, indicating that he had “no news” from Ofer Kalderon. In total, 94 people are still being held by Hamas in Gaza, of whom 34 died according to the Israeli army.
