Chinese exports to Russia rose 4.1 percent to $115.5 billion, supported mainly by sales of vehicles, electronics and chemicals.
Imports, meanwhile, remained stable at $129.3 billion, with raw materials such as crude oil and wood predominating.
Russia has become the main export market for Chinese automakers. However, this trend could be reversed in 2025 following Moscow’s decision last October to increase the tax on the recycling of imported vehicles.
“Automotive exports to Russia may stagnate or even decline in 2025,” Cui Dongshu, secretary general of the China Passenger Car Association, was quoted as saying by local media.
In 2024, Russia was China’s 11th trading partner and 5th outside regional organizations, behind the United States, Korea, Japan and Vietnam.
Chinese foreign trade posted a solid performance in 2024, driven in particular by a significant increase in exports which increased by 7.1% to 25.45 trillion yuan ($3.4 trillion).
