After being on the run for almost two years, Sahbi El Asraoui, a 26-year-old Franco-Algerian, was arrested on Friday January 10 in Marrakech. We know a little more about his profile and the accusations that led to the Interpol file.
Born in 1999 in Besançon, he had been wanted since March 8, 2023, the day he fled in the middle of a hearing during his trial for attempted murder in Planoise, in Doubs. Sentenced in absentia to seven years in prison for seriously injuring a man in December 2020, Sahbi El Asraoui had escaped the French authorities.
He was then involved in a series of serious cases of violence. Among them, a shooting in June 2023 in Planoise, leaving two injured, and a fatal attack in Dijon in November 2023, specifies France 3.
The man was finally arrested while he was in Morocco, carrying a falsified French passport. The public prosecutor of Besançon, Étienne Manteaux, welcomed the cooperation of the Moroccan authorities in this international hunt. An extradition request was made by France, which is now waiting to know the procedural deadlines.
Upon his return, Sahbi El Asraoui should be incarcerated to serve his initial sentence and respond to the new charges brought against him. According to the prosecutor, he embodies “the high spectrum of delinquency”, with a career marked by acts of extreme violence.
