Mr. Ben-Gvir added, however, that in the event of resignation, he would not seek to overthrow the government. Israel has had minority governments in the past.
Mr. Netanyahu’s seat has 68 seats out of the 120 in the Israeli parliament, the Knesset. If the groups led by Ben-Gvir and Smotrich were to leave, he would no longer hold a majority.
Yair Lapid, the opposition leader in Parliament and a former prime minister, said on Monday he would be willing to offer Mr Netanyahu a “safety net” to push through a hostage deal with Hamas.
On Monday, US President Joe Biden said a ceasefire combined with a release of hostages was “close to being concluded”.
