The Minister Delegate for the Budget deplored, this Monday, in the House of Representatives, the current distribution of state subsidies allocated to butane gas. “Of the 15 billion dirhams annually devoted to this product, the poorest 20% of Moroccan society only receive 14% of this sum. On the other hand, the richest 20% benefit from 27%,” he regretted. “In other words, the richest 20% have double,” Lekjaa explained to MPs.

The delegate minister noted the same inequalities in the distribution of aid for flour and sugar. And to call on “the government and Parliament to put in place mechanisms to allow disadvantaged classes to benefit from these subsidies”.

In his speech, Fouzi Lekjaa ruled out any increase in the price of butane gas. “It is not on the agenda,” he assured. As a reminder, the PLF 2024 had provided for a partial decompensation of this product, which resulted, in May of the same year, in an increase of 2.5 DH for the 3 kg gas cylinder and 10 DH for that of 12 kg. The same increase was scheduled for 2025 and 2026.
