Still stuck in the infirmary, Luka Doncic already knows that he is no longer eligible for the MVP title in 2024-25. A former teammate of the Slovenian also spoke about him with a particularly clear-cut speech on the race for the Michael Jordan trophy.

Given that he is still recovering from his calf injury, the verdict is final for Luka Doncic. As he is already assured of not being able to play at least 65 games this season, the former Real Madrid player can say goodbye to possible hopes of winning the MVP in a few months. Same for a selection in an All-NBA Team, which meets the same criterion as the trophy for the best player of the regular campaign.

While El Matador is certainly more interested in a championship ring than an individual accolade, Mavericks fans are nonetheless particularly frustrated. Especially since their superstar had a nice record in 2024-25 and could perhaps compete with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander or even Nikola Jokic.

Jalen Brunson bluntly on the Luka Doncic file

It is also the latter who recently found himself in Jalen Brunson’s sights. Former right-hand man of Doncic in Dallas, the leader of the Knicks believes that the Serbian’s case is treated differently from that of the Slovenian… even though their situation is ultimately not that different. Nikola Jokic’s level of play is completely absurd. His stats are crazy, but they (the Nuggets) aren’t ranked that high compared to last year and people still talk about him as an MVP. From an individual point of view, he deserves it. But when Luka was averaging almost a triple-double and the Mavs weren’t that high in the rankings, everyone said he didn’t deserve the MVP because of the rankings.

Shai (Gilgeous-Alexander) is very close, he is emerging more and more as the No. 1 in the race at the moment. What I don’t understand is why certain arguments only work with certain players?

A speech that will certainly please Doncic fans, who are asking the same question.

It should also be noted that for two or three years, many people have pointed out the media treatment of No. 77. The American media therefore tend to be very critical of Halleluka, much more than of other players with quite similar records. Enough to obviously anger his fanbase.

Nikola Jokic is monstrous, Jalen Brunson easily admits it. But the Nuggets’ ranking bothers him when the same argument had been used against Luka Doncic in the past… Further proof that the criteria for the MVP are a little too vague.
