Tennis – Australian Open 2025: Bonzi eliminates Goffin

Faced with David Goffin, once again close to the top 50, 54th in the world, Benjamin Bonzi, 64th, scored a convincing victory.

The Frenchman won 6-1, 6-2, 7-6 [7] Monday, in the first round of the Australian Open.

During the two initial acts, Bonzi disgusted the Belgian in rhythm from the baseline, before having a little more difficulty finishing.

Faced with an opponent who didn’t give up, as usual, the Habs served for the match at 6-1, 6-2, 5-4, then had three consecutive opportunities to close the affair by leading 6 -3 during the decisive game.

After an unconverted fourth match point at 7-6, he finally finished the job on the fifth, to win the deciding game 9-7. Without having a set point to save.

In the second round, Bonzi – who won his first ATP title at the end of last season, in – will face Francesco Passaro. Lucky loser, the Italian benefited from the abandonment of Grigor Dimitrov.
