The municipal social action center (CCAS) of Sèvremoine (Maine-et-) coordinates essential food aid for vulnerable families. In 2024, the number of beneficiary households increased from 65 to 79, and the people assisted from 131 to 162. This significant increase reflects growing precariousness, particularly among single people.

To respond to this, the CCAS can count on citizen engagement. In December, the annual meeting of Food Bank volunteers, chaired by elected Claudine Gossart, vice-president of the CCAS, took stock of 2024 in the presence of supporters from the and Saint-Macaire-en-Mauges branches.

Urgently strengthen teams

However, faced with growing demand, the CCAS is launching an appeal. “If you have some free time and would like to participate in solidarity actions, you are invited, depending on your availability, to prepare and distribute the packages or to accompany the drivers who transport the food,” asks Claudine Gossart. Distributions take place two Thursdays per month, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The December meeting also brought together young people from the Rural Family House (MFR) of Vallon, La Romagne, “the opportunity to highlight this service and the need to strengthen the teams”. Fifteen young people actively participated in food distribution in Saint-André-de-la-Marche and Saint-Macaire-en-Mauges.

Marked students

“They helped prepare the packages and took part in welcoming the beneficiaries, offering them a hot drink and small cakes in a friendly setting,” underlines the chosen one.

This action, preceded by awareness-raising in class, allowed students to understand the issues of food insecurity, while getting involved concretely: “The subject had an impact on them, so much so that they would like this type of volunteer action to be continued in the future. »
