However, the Heurus group, specialized in the management and operation of senior residences and owner of the Avel residence, is going through a complicated period due in particular to the difficulties of its parent company, the Nantes group Réalités. Since July, the latter has in fact begun, as part of a conciliation procedure, a plan to restructure its debt to the tune of 403.3 million euros.
Residents and their families warned
In a press release sent on Wednesday January 8, 2025, the Heurus group indicates “to continue its restructuring begun at the beginning of 2024 in order to become an independent entity within the Réalités group”. To do this, “and preserve the sustainability of the group”, Heurus plans to refocus its activities in the Great West. It announces that it has initiated legal recovery proceedings applicable to its headquarters, based in Saint-Herblain (44) in the Nantes suburbs, and to several of its residences. But the Avel residence in Brest is not one of those concerned.
According to our information, residents and their families received an information letter, co-signed by the president of the group and the director of the residence, on this situation on the same day. “We have an information meeting planned for next week,” specifies the tenant of an apartment above the six floors reserved for the senior service residence. Another admits to not being aware of the group’s situation. No more than a liberal nurse who came to provide care to residents.
The final response from a potential buyer expected
Around ten employees are currently employed by the residence, according to the Heurus group, to take care of the 97 people who live there. If it is not full, the occupancy rate of the recent residence could attract possible buyers. “It’s a quality service, an ideal offer between home and before the nursing home (accommodation establishment for dependent elderly people),” says a mother, who came to visit her parents. And to resume in a breath: “But it’s expensive. Really. Not everyone has the means.”
According to our information, the residence is in fact in advanced discussions to be taken over by a new operator who would have “shown a keen interest” and whose definitive response is expected by the end of February. “The transitions will be carried out in optimal conditions and in the interest of all,” guarantees Heurus.
