Donald Trump launched a new attack on California state leaders on Sunday, as firefighters battle raging fires in Los Angeles.

“The fires are still raging in Los Angeles. Incompetent politicians have no idea how to turn them off,” the US president-elect said in a message published on his Truth Social platform.

“This is one of the worst disasters in the history of our country. They can’t put out the fires. What is wrong with them?” he wrote.

“Death is everywhere,” protests Donald Trump.

The speed and intensity of the fires ravaging Los Angeles have tested firefighting infrastructure and sparked questions and criticism about the state’s preparedness.

Fire hydrants have dried up in the upscale Pacific Palisades neighborhood, ravaged by one of five fires in the area, while water shortages have also hampered efforts elsewhere.

Just over a week before his return to the White House, Donald Trump is attacking Democrats, launching a series of attacks without evidence against California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Mr. Newsom invited him to visit Los Angeles and see the damage with him.

The fires have so far destroyed more than 12,000 structures, according to the California Fire Agency, while the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office put the death toll at 16.

Despite the heroic efforts of firefighters, the fire in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood continued to grow, pushing east toward the priceless collections of the Getty Center art museum and north toward the densely populated San Fernando Valley.
