Germany rescued an oil tanker in difficulty in the Baltic Sea by towing it, but accuses Russia of endangering European security with its fleet which circumvents sanctions and pollutes the planet.
A 274 m long trash tanker adrift on the Baltic: the Eventin, flying the flag of Panama. In its holds, 99,000 tonnes of illegally exported Russian oil. Friday January 10, the German authorities had to intervene urgently with three tugboats to rescue him. Having left Russia, it was due to reach Egypt when it suffered damage off the coast of Germany. Without electricity, without a motor, it represented a danger to the environment.
This tanker is suspected of being part of the immense Russian ghost fleet of 600 ships, most of them flying flags of convenience. It was decided by Vladimir Putin to massively remove oil and gas from the country despite the European embargo. Some would also specialize in attacks against communication cables, such as the Eagle S, spotted on December 25, which damaged several cables between Finland and Estonia.
