This Saturday morning, in the town of Vergèze located near Nîmes, a jogger in her forties was the victim of a violent attack, CNEWS learned from a gendarmerie source, confirming information from our colleagues from Midi Libre.
Transported to Nîmes University Hospital following the tragedy, the victim is between life and death. She reportedly received several stab wounds to the neck and throat after being pushed to the ground. A plainclothes policeman raised the alarm.
The attacker aged around thirty
According to local authorities, the attacker, believed to be around thirty years old, is actively being sought and the area has been blocked off. To do this, around sixty gendarmes were mobilized as well as several helicopters and dogs.
A composite portrait is also being developed with the help of witnesses.
According to Ici Gard Lozère, the woman is from the town of Aigues-Vives and is the mother of five children. Two of them were said to have witnessed the attack.
The Nîmes public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into attempted intentional homicide.
