In addition to the extension work completed at the start of the 2024 school year on the Les Thermes nursery school, 65 photovoltaic panels were installed on the roof of its new building. With a total power of 28.60 kWp, these panels should produce 35.94 MWh of green electricity each year, thus helping to reduce the school’s carbon footprint. In addition, photovoltaic shade covers covering 166 m² were added to the extension and the southern part of the existing building.
An initiative with multiple benefits
This installation represents a total investment of €29,994, including €13,617 financed by a subsidy from Hérault Énergies, leaving a balance of €16,377 for the municipality.
Beyond its ecological benefits, this initiative also brings economic advantages. Thanks to controlled energy production, the school gains autonomy and significantly reduces its costs. With a current price per MWh estimated at €192, annual savings should reach €6,926.
In addition, a contract signed with EDF will allow the municipality to resell the excess electricity produced, generating additional income. The extension of the building is made with ecological materials: a light gray membrane roof and wooden facades. These choices strengthen the thermal performance of the building, offering better comfort to students and staff. This innovative project positions Les Thermes nursery school as a model of energy transition, part of a sustainable and responsible approach.
