Firefighters from the Memphrémagog Est Fire Authority were mobilized for approximately four hours, starting at 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning, to fight the fire at 3, rue Fairfax.

The last blaze broke out in a separate part of the building, where a restaurant was being installed, reports operations manager Christian Létourneau. It is this part which suffered the damage.

“There are gas tanks and all that,” says Mr. Létourneau. It could have been a lot worse. But the procedure went really well. The firefighters were quickly on the scene and it was quickly controlled. They made a nice big jobas we can say.”

The value of the damage has not yet been assessed, but repairs will certainly be necessary, says Mr. Létourneau.

“It was a bit of the roof structure that was affected. However, all the equipment was not yet installed. The restaurant owners are still lucky for that,” he says.

An investigation is underway and no theory has been ruled out for the moment regarding the cause of the fire, specifies Mr. Létourneau.

The Esso and Couche-Tard have not suffered any impacts following the events and remain open.
