Following an unannounced inspection visit carried out on Friday in several technical units of the Tunisian National Railway Company (SNCFT), the Minister of Transport, Rachid Amri, gave instructions to develop an urgent rescue plan by January 16, 2025, aimed at improving the availability of the railway fleet.
This plan must include practical solutions to speed up maintenance operations and offer better services to users, while waiting for the necessary funding to be obtained to strengthen the fleet with new equipment intended for the transport of people and goods in the medium term.
During this visit to the Farhat Hached depot (dedicated to the routine maintenance of mainline trains and freight trains), the Sidi Fathallah workshops (specialized in major maintenance operations and major repairs of locomotives and railway wagons). transport of passengers and goods, as well as the maintenance of equipment of the different units) and the depot of the rapid rail network workshops (dedicated to the maintenance of the trains of the rapid rail network), Rachid Amri called all the actors of the SNCFT to fully assume their responsibilities towards citizens, whose expectations remain at the heart of concerns.
He stressed that, despite the current financial and structural difficulties, exceptional efforts must be made to improve fleet availability indicators, optimize material and human resources, and preserve the company’s revenues.
