Macquarie Asset Management, a subsidiary of the Macquarie financial group, has completed the acquisition of Ziton. The asset management division thus takes control of the Danish shipping company specializing in the operation and maintenance (O&M) of offshore wind turbines. An investment aimed at taking advantage of a booming market in Europe with demand important for vessels capable of operating on wind fields.

Ziton has been working in wind power since 2007 (then Dansk Bjergning og Bugsering, DBB). It started with one of the first jack-ups used in wind power, the Wind. A 55 meter vessel with a 30 tonne crane capable of working in 35 meter depths. It was chartered long term by Vestas, then Siemens.

Since then, the fleet has expanded with five additional jack-up vessels: Wind Pioneer, Wind Server, Wind Enterprise, Wind Energy and Wind Discovery. This makes it the largest European fleet of jack-up vessels dedicated to O&M. The Wind Discovery, built in 2011 and having worked in the transport and installation of wind turbines, has just joined the fleet under the Danish flag. This vessel, 138.6 meters long, 40.8 meters wide, has six legs allowing it to work up to 55 meters deep. With its 800 ton crane, it can work on large turbines, up to 11 MW. It will be chartered long-term by an unnamed client, starting in the second quarter of 2025.

The large Australian financial group Macquarie, which specializes in infrastructure (water distribution networks, airports, thermal power plants, highways, etc.), also has the subsidiary Corio Generation, one of the largest offshore wind developers in the world with a pipeline. of 30 GW of wind projects. In October, however, media reported that he was considering selling it.
