“I corrected your anthologies. With very deep sadness. Because it is clear that the vast majority of you have used some form of artificial intelligence to do this work […]», Wrote Élyse Dupras in her message to the students which she shared on her social networks.

The observation put forward by Ms. Dupras hardly surprises those in the education sector.

“I’m not surprised to read this kind of text. I think that there are more and more teachers who will find themselves confronted with the arrival of artificial intelligence and who will feel ill-equipped to react to all that,” mentioned Viviane Vallerand, student at doctorate in educational psychology, specializing in AI.

Dealing with the use of AI represents an immense challenge for teachers at all levels, says Martin Hogue, president of the Deux-Rives education union.

“Socially we must have a concern for that because there are intellectual functions that we must develop when we are in the school network such as judgment, discernment, autonomy, the ability to carry out a synthesis,” said added Mr. Hogue.

A concern shared by Viviane Vallerand.

“If we leave ChatGPT or these tools as is, we probably risk ending up with a generation who will perhaps have this dependence and who will not be able to think for themselves, to have creativity, an ability to collaborate with others,” she fears.

Details in the report by Félix-Antoine Audet.
