The Princess of Wales is celebrating her 43rd birthday this Thursday, after a year marked by a battle with cancer. While she seems to have overcome this ordeal, Kate hopes to fully regain her role alongside Prince William.
Kate Middleton, emblematic figure of the British royal family, experienced a year marked by illness. After months of absence and speculation, she revealed last March, via a moving video, her fight against cancer. This testimony put an end to the rumors that had been circulating since the controversial publication of a retouched photo of her and her children.
The princess went through several months of chemotherapy, announcing with relief the end of her treatment in early September. In a video shot in August, she spoke about these “incredibly hard months” while expressing her desire to enjoy every day surrounded by her husband William and their children, George, Charlotte and Louis.
A beloved royal icon
Since her marriage to Prince William in 2011, Kate has become one of the United Kingdom’s most beloved personalities. Renowned for its elegance and its proximity to the public, it embodies a modern image of the monarchy. The daughter of a couple of entrepreneurs who made their fortune, she met William at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, where she was studying art history.
Her rare public appearances in 2024 were widely publicized, notably during the Christmas concert she organized at Westminster Abbey. She dedicated this evening to those “who have gone through difficult times”. Earlier in the year, she took part in significant official events, such as King Charles’ birthday parade and the Wimbledon final.
-A strengthened role for the future
As she recovers from her battle with illness, the Princess of Wales plans to become more involved in her public engagements. Actions in favor of education and early childhood, causes close to his heart, should be at the center of his agenda in 2025.
An official trip abroad could also mark his return to prominence. “I hope that Catherine will take part in more trips next year,” Prince William said during a stay in South Africa last November. Kate has not left the UK for official engagements for over 14 months, with her last trip abroad taking place in France during the Rugby World Cup.
