Shock in England: Rodrigo Bentancur collapses during Tottenham v Liverpool match and is evacuated on a stretcher

A dramatic incident unfolded in England on Wednesday as Tottenham faced Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final. Tension gripped the stadium when Rodrigo Bentancur, the former Boca Juniors midfielder, collapsed in the opposing team’s box, causing great concern among the players on the pitch.

Bentancur lost consciousness during the match, which led to a rapid intervention by doctors who rushed to the field to assist him. The official broadcast chose not to show the alarming scenes that unfolded in the stadium, as play was halted for several minutes until Bentancur was carried off on a stretcher, making way for Brennan Johnson.

Social media quickly went up in flames with a video showing the midfielder being supported by a teammate, with his jaw dislocated, highlighting the seriousness of the injury. “Bentancur has been carried off on a stretcher, and we are forced to make a premature replacement. We are all with you, Lolo,” was the first message from Tottenham on their official X account (formerly Twitter), although no update medical day has not yet been reported.

Over time, a club spokesperson said the midfielder “was immediately transferred to a nearby hospital for further examinations.” They reassured fans that the former Boca player was in good condition and out of danger. “We can confirm that Rodrigo is conscious, able to speak, and will be taken to hospital for further checks,” read a brief statement on the English club’s official X account.

After the incident, the match resumed normally, but the atmosphere remained charged with tension.

Earlier today, in the other semi-final match, Arsenal lost to Newcastle United by a score of 2-0. The match was decided by a goal from Swedish striker Alexander Isak, followed by another from Anthony Gordon.

At the Emirates Stadium, two strong competitors clashed with completely opposite tactics, and the visitors claimed victory, thanks to the Scandinavian striker’s sense of goal, which extended his impressive streak.

Isak opened the scoring with a powerful left-footed strike following a magnificent pass from Jacob Murphy, scoring his 14th goal in his last 15 appearances for Newcastle United.
