During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, the Ukrainian army announced that it had targeted a Russian oil depot in Engels. Located 500 kilometers from the border, this depot in western Russia supplies Russian military aviation.

The Ukrainian army announced that it had struck, during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday January 8, a Russian oil depot located 500 kilometers from the border.

The site in question, the “Combinat Kristall” depot in Engels, in the Saratov region, is used to refuel Russian strategic bombers stationed at the “Engels-2” air base.

This attack triggered several explosions and a major fire in the depot, as reported by videos broadcast by Russian Telegram channels linked to the security services.

The governor of the region, Roman Bousarguine, spoke of a “massive drone attack” having affected the towns of Engels and Saratov, on the other bank of the Volga.

This strike seriously disrupted the logistics of Russian strategic aviation, thus reducing its ability to carry out strikes against Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, the Ukrainian army said in a statement published on Telegram.
