School transport is suspended this Wednesday in Hauts-de-France, an orange alert for snow and ice will be in effect from 4 p.m. in the Nord, Pas-de-Calais and Somme. Accumulations could reach 5 to 10 cm in places. This morning our 3 departments are on yellow alert. The prefect of Pas-de-Calais has decided to implement several measures for vulnerable people.
The Pas-de-Calais department is placed by Météo-France on yellow snow-ice alert this Wednesday, January 8 from 12 a.m. to 10 a.m., then from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. This vigilance will be raised to orange level as of tomorrow, 4 p.m.
Following an expected drop in temperatures tomorrow, precipitation will take on a snowy character as it progresses over Hauts-de-France. They will continue in the evening and first part of the night from Wednesday to Thursday, then should weaken, even if significant frosts should persist
Measures implemented by the prefect of Pas-de-Calais for vulnerable people:
• Extension of operating hours between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. of day centers located in the department (1 per district). Note that 4 are already working 7 days a week (Arras, Béthune, Boulogne-sur-mer and Montreuil-sur-mer).
• Intensification of patrols (11 street teams: 1 per district, 2 in that of Lens and 2 mobile street teams in the rural sector), in order to encourage people to accept a
accommodation.
• Mobilization of emergency accommodation places: the departmental stock was maintained at a high level of 1,278 places. It should be noted that since 2022 all places open for the winter period have been maintained all year round. 38 additional places have also been opened since November 1.
• Precise instructions have been given to take care of all people who wish to do so. To this end, hotel nights can be mobilized in all the districts of Pas-de-Calais.
• The 7 departmental branches of the Integrated Reception and Orientation Service (SIAO) are fully mobilized to provide the most appropriate responses.
• The entire active reception and accommodation system in Pas-de-Calais mobilizes 47 million euros and relies on 160 dedicated professionals.
• The specific shelter system deployed for the migrant population present in Calais during periods of extreme cold is once again activated. This device intervenes in
complement the daily shelter offered to migrants in the department’s reception and situation examination centers (CAES). In 2024, more than 4,500 people will have benefited from this system.
