Tick tock tick tock. In a few days now, on January 17, Apple TV+ will unveil the first episodes of season 2 of Severance. The streaming platform has offered an official synopsis of this sequel. Here it is in full:
In Severance, Mark Scout (Adam Scott) leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a layoff process, which surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This daring experiment in “work-life balance” is called into question when Mark finds himself at the center of an unfolding mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his job…and himself. In Season 2, Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of failing to meet the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of doom.
Rave reviews
And indeed, the first reviews have fallen, because the press had preview access to the episodes. And the least we can say is that our colleagues are enthusiastic. Season 2 of Severance already has a rating of 85 on Metacritic and even 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Variety says: “As long as Severance can provide these bits of sublime weirdness, it’s easy to suspend one’s disbelief, as well as one’s thirst for concrete information. Whatever destination Severance is aiming for, the journey showcases the arbitrary rules and compartmentalized nature of modern work better than anything streamed.”
Same story from the Daily Beast:
What remains is a cleverly orchestrated puzzle, whose insights into the characters (and their vast histories) and circumstances are both illuminating and confusing, as they always hint at larger secrets and conspiracies hidden just out of sight. looks.
In France, however, Les Numériques liked it a little less: “Weighed down by its long gestation, this highly anticipated season 2 of Severance unfortunately does not live up to our expectations. This is due in particular to frustrating writing and choices, which prefers to add mystery to mystery rather than answer the numerous and exciting questions raised in its first season. Already one of our big disappointments for 2025”.
