Last July, Vanessa Maes, boss of the Belgian Grand Prix, was very clear about the future of the event she manages. “ In agreement with the political authorities, we are fighting to secure a multi-year, non-alternating contract from 2026,” she confided.
Almost six months later, she won her case… but not completely. If Vanessa Maes’ wish was to keep the Belgian Grand Prix for the long term from the 2026 season, she was ultimately not able to tick all the boxes. The multi-year contract extension was indeed granted to the event contested in the Toboggan des Ardennes but it could not escape the rotation.
Indeed, this new contract ensures that Spa-Francorchamps will appear on the calendar for 4 of the next 6 Formula 1 seasons: 2026, 2027, 2029 and 2031. It now remains to define the other Grand Prix with which that of Belgium will alternate at know for the 2028 and 2030 campaigns.
