Oumar Konte is the new general director of the Banque de l’Union Burkina Faso (BDU-BF), a subsidiary of the Mali Development Bank (BDM.SA). He succeeds Amadou Allaye Sankaré, retired, who officially handed over the reins on January 2, 2025 during a ceremony in Ouagadougou.
“After 2 years at the head of the Union Bank, I am preparing to turn an important page in my life. It was an honor and a privilege to lead this institution, a pillar of the economic development of our country, and to work with professionally committed and passionate collaborators and partners, who accompanied me on this adventure. Together, we have overcome challenges, achieved objectives and, above all, built a strong and resilient bank, capable of meeting the aspirations of our fellow citizens and our partners,” said the outgoing CEO. And added: “I leave with the certainty that the future of BDU is in good hands who will be able to raise it to the top of the banking center of Burkina”
A financial economist by training, the new general director, Oumar Konte, is presented as a pure product of finance. Until now an executive of the BDU’s parent company, the Mali Development Bank (BDM.S), the Malian thus takes command of the 8e bank of Burkina Faso in terms of assets (432.482 billion FCFA total balance sheet as of December 31, 2023). Launched in January 2015, the establishment operates through a network of 20 agencies as of this date.
