The maximum prices of TGV Inoui and Ouigo will vary between “1 and 7 euros” depending on the lines. Alain Krakovitch considers this necessary in order to cover costs as well as to finance future investments.

SNCF is today formalizing an increase in its fare scale. The price increase is expected to be on average 1.5% in 2025, compared to 2.6 points in 2024 and 5 points in 2023. According to the railway operator, this is equivalent to an increase of 1 euro per ticket. For Intercity trains, for which the State is the organizing authority, the average increase will be 1.9%. This increase only concerns tickets purchased from Wednesday January 8.

“This is well below the increase in our costs planned for 2025, which will be around 3%, explained Alain Krakovitch, boss of TGV and Intercités at SNCF on Info. We have chosen not to cover only half of the increase in our costs.”

“Finance our investments”

The maximum prices of TGV Inoui and Ouigo will vary between “1 and 7 euros” depending on the lines. SNCF Voyageurs assures that this increase will not concern the lowest prices (the first prices, although limited) of the TGV Inoui and Ouigo, nor leisure subscriptions, nor the conditions of Avantage cards. “We are choosing to favor maintaining low prices,” assured Alain Krakovitch.

The SNCF justifies this increase by the need to partially compensate for the constant increase in its costs, in particular those for tolls for the use of the rail network (which can reach up to 40% of the price of a TGV ticket) and to the revaluation of salaries.

“I remind you that the TGV is not subsidized, underlined Alain Krakovitch. It is important to cover our costs but also to finance our investments. The only solution to cover these investments is the price of our tickets.”
