After the coronation of Elden Ring and Baldur’s Gate 3, the 2024 edition of the Game Awards ceremony caused a lot of ink to flow due to the triumph of the PS5 exclusive Astro Bot. If, on the one hand, players tried to invalidate this success with their own awards ceremony, a site is listing all GOTY titles around the world and there is, according to the current results, no debate: this game has already won more than 100 awards alone!

A few weeks ago, the video game industry held its breath. For good reason, the last month of the year is often the period during which we honor the most significant video games of the last twelve months. During the ceremony of Game Awardsmany categories were in the spotlight, but it wasn’t just this evening of celebration. There were other award ceremonies, official ones like the Golden Joysticks Awardseven unofficial, carried out by the numerous editorial teams specializing in video games around the world.
Every year, the site Goty.gamefa.com lists the rankings made by the media and publishing organizations to find out the name of the most awarded video game over the past year. Currently, the site is still collecting the results published here and there, but there are already 285 awards listed. But then, who is the lucky winner? Are the media and editorial staff in agreement with the final verdict of the Game Awards or have they crowned another champion? It’s time to find out but it will only reignite the debate…!
Astro Bot leaves only crumbs to the competition, the PS5 triumphs in 2024
Of the 285 “Game of the Year” awards, the most resounding title of 2024 has collected… 104 alone ! If we push the comparison to establish a win ratio, the title in question is at 36.5% success (at the time of writing). Let’s not drag out the suspense any longer: this is, once again, the PS5 Astro Bot exclusive. Clearly, the little robot is indeed the big winner of this year 2024, closely followed by Final Fantasy VII Rebirthin second position. Despite its score of 9.2 (compared to 9.4 for Astro Bot), Square Enix’s production “only” received the GOTY title 37 times (i.e. a ratio of only 13%).
With this immense triumph, Astro Bot achieves much more than this major success. Beyond being undoubtedly the game of the year for the press and specialized media, it is now the most awarded platform game to date, going so far as to dethrone the winner of 2021, namely It Takes Twowhich had only recorded 88 “Game of the Year” awards. Regardless, if he has a huge head start, Astro Bot perhaps risks being overtaken by its other competitors, all genres combined. As we explained, the accounting is still in progress and we are still far from the total number of awards recorded (541 in 2023, 599 in 2022, 442 in 2021 and even 656 in 2020!)
